Food in Care is an innovative and practical course developed to upskill carers of children and young people in care – addressing nutrition and food behaviour issues. The training provides a detailed insight into the needs of Children in Care, with practical tools and ideas that carers (foster, kinship, residential) and other professionals (social workers, LAC nurses, managers) can use in everyday situations when providing child care.

We offer various training packages that can meet different needs. We offer a comprehensive direct course, Train the Trainer package and shorter online course. We have worked with number of organisations across England and are always happy to provide the best bespoke support.
BENEFITS OF COMPLETING THE COURSE
This evidence-based programme has been co-developed to upskill those working with Children in Care to manage complex eating behaviours.
Attendance on the course will give participants detailed knowledge and skills of nutrition and the impact this has on physical and mental health and well-being.
Understanding of how food is used socially to communicate thoughts, actions and beliefs.
Participants will gain insight and the ability to look beyond the child’s food-related behaviour and learn strategies and techniques to help the child.
Upskilling carers and support staff with these resources will positively impact relationships within the care setting and promote placement stability.

More than 100 Food in Care champions have been trained to date, including foster carers, social workers, residential teams and training professionals at both practitioner and manager level.
Magdalena Przybyłka, RNutr Public Health, MSc., BSc (Hons)
Registered Nutritionist in Public Health with master degree in Weight Management. Magda has initated and developed the programme since 2015. She has been fully involved in the training development and promotion since its launch. Prior to the programme Magda managed a three years project working with foster families and children in care settings around promoting healthy lifestyle and supporting them around food related issues. Magda has an extensive experience in both nutrition and social care field. She is very passionate in supporting children and young people to have better health and life outcomes. Her wide experience includes working with people from various backgrounds, developing positive relationships with both children and carers, creating and delivering bespoke workshops and trainings to families and other professionals on food, nutrition and health.
